What is Delta Device?

Why you should worry about hard water scaling?

Water is used as an important coolant in various Industrial processes. It generally contains a lot of impurities in dissolved and suspended form.

Hard Water contains Calcium and Magnesium salts.  Scale formation is mainly due to hardness of water, which results in machines not performing optimally.

Heat transfer efficiencies reduce, as the hard water scaling increases due to its thermal insulating properties.

This drop in thermal efficiency also causes overheating of equipment and may result in frequent shutdowns the cleaning process is recurring, tedious and it also greatly reduces the life of various heat exchangers.

How does scale formation take place?

Scale formation inside any equipment is due to the rise in temperature of water flowing through it. At higher temperatures, water has a tendency to precipitate dissolved Ca & Mg salts.

Higher the temperatures of water Calcium and Magnesium salts precipitate out and form scale on the surface of heat transfer area.

Fluid also tends to precipitate out dissolved Calcium and Magnesium salts at its higher pH value i.e. when it tends to be slightly alkaline. Please Refer the graph provided below.

Delta device works on two major steps – Absorbtion & Turbulence

Galvanic principle is used to enhance the pH value of fluid. As a result core gets negatively charged and attracts Hydrogen Ions H+ towards itself. The pH of a fluid is expressed pH=1/H+. Hence, the concentration of H+ ion is comparatively less in the fluid inside the device, pH value increases, there by precipitating Ca & Mg salts before it touches the high temperature tubes.





Once the precipitation of these salts has taken place, further precipitation due to temperature variation is not possible.

Delta Device precipitates out Ca & Mg bicarbonates in the colloidal form before the fluid attains the critical temperature of supersaturation due to its coming in contact with hot tubes.

These precipitated salts are in the colloidal form (small particles) and are suspended in a fluid. Therefore, very small size and lighter weight particles and the fluid flowing through Delta Devicecarries away these precipitated salts.
